One Word & a Giveaway!

Last week I blogged about picking one word for the year than making a resolution.  After lots of thinking and lots of prayer I finally discovered my word for the year:

GIVE

Give of my:
time
talents
money

Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.  Deuteronomy 15:10

In his book Crazy Love, Francis Chan says:  "We are each given different gifts and talents by our Master.  The thing that matters most is how we use what we have been given, not how much we make or do compared to someone else.  What matters is that we spend ourselves."

This book was amazing!  My book club read it and we had some awesome discussions about it.  It challenged me.  I want you to have of your very own copy of the book!  If you have already read it then maybe you know someone you could give it to.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below telling me what your word for the year is.  If you don't have a word for the year tell me what one of your goals for this year is.

One winner will be chosen by random draw on Monday, January 31, 2011.

I can't wait to read about your words and goals for the year!

  1. I hope I'm not docked for having more than one word. ha ha! My words are,
    LIVING LIFE.
To actually do the things that I usually just think about but don't follow through with because of fear, laziness or being indecisive. For example craft projects, new recipes, making that hair appointment or other appointments, eating better, volunteering, or planning fun family activities. I could go on and on. Of course I want it to be pleasing to God so I am trusting he will guide me away if it's not something he wants me to do. The idea stemmed from a picture I now have hanging in my house. I believe God was showing me that I was playing it safe and not truly living my life. A few verses he gave me were:
Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageous, don't be afraid, don't be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you whereever you go!

That last verse he sent to me through Levi. I am proud to say I have made it into a sign (I got my craft on!!!) and it's hanging in his room.
So this post doesn't do justice to the way God is growing me and working on me but it gives you the idea. I really enjoyed reading yours as well. Give on Margo! Give on!
    Love ya,
    Jeni

  3. I haven't narrowed it down to one word for the year, but I will share a goal with you. In this year, I am trying to memorize 2 verses a month. Given my mental state lately, this could be quite a task. Here are my two for January

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Maybe my word is transform. (as in Be transformed by the renewing of your mind--from Romans 12)

Great giveaway! I've read it but I will LOVE gifting someone else with it!
